Train to Bergen - Sept 14th

Most of today was taken up by the train ride from Oslo to Bergen.  This ride is ranked as one of the top five train rides in the world.  It is very scenic and almost seven hours long.  Unlike our last train ride (see our blog on our Prinsendam trip) we had no soccer hooligans on board so it was a beautiful and peaceful ride.

One odd item we encountered while waiting on our train.  A team of young men, three or four came up to two guys sitting across from us.  It took a second to figure out what was going on but then we saw the young men were wearing bullet proof vests under their plain clothes.  They questioned the two guys, asked for ID's and even scanned their ID's in some type of portable gizmo.  The two guys did not act upset or nervous so maybe this happens to them all the time but it was clearly undercover police in the train station checking out what they thought were suspicious characters.  Given everything that haas gone on lately its good to know.

Our train left right on time and we had a nice, albeit long ride to Bergen.  I apologize as most of the pictures are taken through the train window.  At first the country side was very green with lots of birch and pine trees.  After a while it got very rocky and the trees all went away.  We saw lots of waterfalls and even one glacier.

On arrival we walked to our hotel, Hotel Park Bergen, it is in a historic old house so its nice but with lots of squeaky floors.  We went out to dinner fashionably late, 8:30

Pines and birch
The pictures really don't do it justice.

Rocky and somewhat desolate
Waterfall, we saw lots but they were hard to get pictures from a moving train
